Rolls Royce’s History: When Rolls Met Royce

Sir (Frederick) Henry Royce and motoring and aviation pioneer Charles Rolls formed an unlikely partnership after their first meeting in Manchester on May 4th 1904. They both had very different upbringings, with Rolls coming from a privileged background and Royce working since he was just 9 years old.

The Rolls-Royce Ghost pays homage to Roll-Royce’s first six cylinder vehicle originally named the 40/50 h.p which was later recognised as the Silver Ghost. It was created a year after Charles Rolls and Sir Henry Royce joined forces in 1906, and later hailed as the “best car in the world.”
